In order to provide timely and adequate assistance to children with a hearing impairment, BHM has developed the contact mini as the world's first digital miniature bone conduction system. Particularly for children, swift intervention with acoustic support is much in demand as speech development is inextricably linked with the ability to hear. Hearing-impaired adults who play a lot of sport will also find the contact mini extremely useful.
This system can be used to provide optimal support for language development, social exchange and comprehension, as conventional hearing systems or surgical intervention in young children are often complicated, irksome and do not always achieve the desired results.
Our child-friendly bone conduction hearing product consists of an electronic casing with a miniature vibration receiver. It transmits sound through direct contact with the head, where it is transformed into a nerve impulse in the inner ear.
The contact mini can be incorporated into a wide range of headpieces, hair bands and Alice bands in colourful designs with decorative motifs. Increasing numbers of adults are also discovering the advantages of this hearing system: particularly for sports enthusiasts, the contact mini is a practical companion for example when walking or skiing, and can easily be added to sports caps and ski helmets.

The Sophono
It was developed in Germany then bought by an American company. Its great advantage over previous devices is that there is nothing sticking through the skin. So no long term looking after the implant site and no risk of infections around a protruding abutment.
There are two parts:
INTERNAL part – which goes underneath the skin and contains two magnets.
EXTERNAL part – which is on the outside of the skin and is held in place by a magnet over the internal part.
Who Might Benefit From A SOPHONO?
Three groups of people may benefit from a Sophono:
1. Patients with a CONDUCTIVE hearing loss
2. Patients with a MIXED loss.
3. Patients with a ONE SIDED severe to profound nerve hearing loss (= a sensori-neural hearing loss)
This is where sound can not get through to the inner ear. Possible causes are listed below. Often this sort of hearing loss can be treated with a normal hearing aid but some people can not use a normal hearing aid either because it causes ear infections or because the patient may not have an ear or ear canal.
For people with a conductive hearing loss and repeated infections whenever they use a normal hearing aid, the Sophono can be effective at not only helping the hearing but also allowing the ear to dry up and avoid infections because the ear canal is no longer blocked.
